Alleged act of racism hits home

Stories of nooses on college dorm room door handles, racial graffiti and other acts of bigotry have been popping up all across the nation. Now, an alleged act of racism has hit home.
An e-mail sent to the Express office indicated that racial comments were reported to have been drawn on the desk of an African-American student in TeriAnn Bengiveno's history class several times this semester.

It's Saturday and the sun is blinding to any exposed eyes. The day is in its infancy, yet the dedicated people of Operation SAM are awake and ready for an eight hour day of packing, taping and labeling boxes. The four storage rooms at Will Store Super Storage in Livermore are brimming with people, and an array of canned goods, hygiene products and boxes both filled and empty, block the walkways in and out of the crammed rooms.

Student government is not about school spirit. It's about "shared governance," a concept in which not just administration, but faculty, staff, and students collaborate to make healthy decisions for the campus. The Associated Students has a budget, a set of By-Laws and a Constitution, and the legal right and responsibility to serve as an advisory body in decision-making bodies and processes on campus.

Knowing that bigotry is alive and well on the Las Positas campus is despicable.
When a swastika and the n-word were scrawled on a student's desk four separate times this semester, not only was the person responsible sending a hateful message to a fellow student but also the reputation of the entire Las Positas College student body was compromised.

If you need to make a phone call in your car, try not to kill anyone while you do it.
It's a fact that cell phone you've got glued to your ear while you drive is not only a distraction, it's downright dangerous. California's law banning non-hands-free cell phone use goes into effect on July 1 of this year, and it's about time.

California has passed a law prohibiting cell phone use while driving according to Governors Highway Safety Association. California has passed another ridiculous law.
The fact that people will get a ticket if they are on the phone while they drive is idiotic.
