The Las Positas campus is large, and spending time walking around and taking in the sights isn't the most important thing for a student to undertake. This compilation of some of the hidden wonders on the LPC campus is only a tease to what else the campus holds for the adventurous. If you have any sort of hidden place or thing on campus that you'd like for people to know about, email it to us at

1. The Fire Pit

Located just outside the 2400 building near some roses, most people don't even bother to give this pile of stones more than a glance. Once in a long while, these stones will have a hot propane flame put under them that burns bright and high. A student at Las Positas may see this fire put to use during the night, although even then it is a very rare occurrence to see it running.

2. The Garden

Admissions into the Viticulture and Winery Operations classes on campus are sought after by many students, evidenced by their constantly full classes. What most don't know about the classes is that there is a large garden hidden near the back of the school for these students to practice in. Consisting of two greenhouses, multiple planter boxes, a few fruit trees, and a practice vine for the students to practice their techniques, the garden is an absolutely pleasant place if you can ignore the large amounts of construction going on right next door.

3. The Giant 30 Foot Hole In the Ground

Though it is hard to see, the person at the bottom of this huge pit near the construction of the new arts department. The writer is exactly six feet tall, and decided to use himself as a reference point to show how deep this hole is. Not only is it deep, but how wide the hole is can also be seen through the picture. This hole's purpose, while of a daunting size, is currently unknown, as the construction of the arts department itself is right next door. When the writer attempted to ask what the hole was for, he was told he needed a hardhat and was forced to leave the premises. The hole's purpose still goes unknown to anyone without a hard hat.

4. The TVs in the 2400 Building and Gym

With the new solar panels comes an all new way to see how the school is effectively going green. In the 2400 building and gym are flat screen TVs which currently aren't showing anything. But in a little while, the TVs will be used to show the weather and how much money the solar panels are saving to anyone who passes by. Using a large weather So if you've ever wondered what those large things are in the parking structure, just look at these new TVs, and they'll not only tell you what kind of day to expect, but they'll also tell you how much money the school is saving.

5. Walt Rexroad and His Rose Gardens

Rexroad, one of the gardeners for the campus, has his main areas of expertise lie with the many rose bushes around campus. They cover many areas of the campus and give it a color during the spring that brightens the school. "The supervisors prefer that no one touches the flowers at all," Rexroad said, "as they are here for everyone to enjoy."

Even if you can't pick it yourself, there's a solution to your flower cravings. If you ever happen to see Rexroad, though, while he's out pruning his flowers, ask him if you can take one home. He'd be happy to clip it for you.
