When some of us were young, we constructed homemade instruments and made pretend music. Last night on Thursday the 21st, MuteMath based out of New Orleans displayed an amazing reoccurrence of this childhood memory. The four-piece band is a group of men who combine a mixture of music with imagination. The band was extremely energetic and creative with a unique approach on how to make and share their music. Mutemath began their set with the song; "Chaos." The song that exerted the most hype and sing-along was "Control." With a beautiful stage presence, the musicians gave the crowd a compulsion of happiness. The crowd's positive feedback was displayed with encore applause. Mutemath appeared back on stage to perform their encore song, "Reset." The colorful stage lights varied to set the mood and accent the vitality of Mutemath's style. The atmosphere was phenomenal. The members switched instruments during songs, making the show a fun experience. The collaboration of unique sounds and instruments instilled excitement in the audience. The band uses hand made and vintage equipment. After the show, Roy the bassist spoke of aiding their hometown in a relief effort. However, their schedule has been too busy to put on a benefit show. Paul says that they lived in New Orleans at the time of the occurance of Katrina and floods but they had evacuated. They were recording at the time therefore no one was effected a whole lot. Good music, good people, good vibes, and a good over-all performance, gives this concert two thumbs up. Mutemath will cause post-concert syndrome, which is what we all hope to have after a show.
