The Chabot Gladiators run the gauntlet victoriously against the Las Positas Hawks, in the first basketball game against Chabot College. "This is one of the most important games of the season," said Hawk's guard Kelvin Hodges, "even though we were trailing we had to keep playing."
Chabot's Gladiators had a bit of the upper hand by scoring baskets early on in the game, but overall the game was a basket for basket game between both teams.
During the first half of the game, Hawks allowed a window for the Gladiators to score basket after basket, in turn this hurt the Hawks for the duration of the game. With 1:01 left in the first half the score was Hawks 23 and Gladiators 31, the Hawks seized the minute they had and were able to make the score Hawks 28, Gladiators 32 at half time.
Coming in the second half with the same intensity they played that last minute the Hawks seemed to have turned this game around, for a brief moment. At 17:49 left in the second half the Hawks managed to tie the game, momentarily, the Gladiators came back to answer the Hawks with a 3 pointer and followed that by scoring a basket, making it a 5 point game, Gladiator's lead.
Again with 13:30 left in the second half the Hawks tie the game 41 to 41, this time around Hawks capitalize on the tie and took the lead. This was the crucial turning point in the game the Hawks needed to win, keeping the momentum going Hawks guard, Rob Wallace number 24, hits a 3-pointer making the score of the game Hawks 48, Gladiators 43.
Unable to follow through and keep up with the Gladiator's offense the Hawks slowly lose the lead. With 7 minutes, left in the game the Hawks' 5-point lead was now a 2-point lead. The Hawks seemed to have lost the momentum they had during the last 5 minutes of the game allowing the Gladiators to take the lead, and go on to defeat the Hawks with the final score of Hawks 67, and Gladiators 73.
"This is our first game against Chabot, the first half we played the butterflies came out but the second half we came out stronger. We played good but our shots didn't follow through," said Wallace.
