Maybe it was the rain.
On Feb. 9, more than half of the ICC's club representatives failed to attend the scheduled meeting. With less than a week before Club Day, the meeting was canceled a half an hour after it began.
According to the ICC's by-laws, clubs that miss two meetings a semester can be deactivated thus cut off from funding.
With only two meetings into the semester, a few clubs could technically be deactivated, as nearly one fourth of the ICC representatives also failed to attend the first meeting.
"We're reluctant to deactivate clubs. It's not a positive thing," said Nicole Solovskoy, the ICC Chair. Solovskoy also stressed the importance of attendance, "I personally want to make sure that the people who should be [at the meetings] are there," she said.
Last year, though four clubs went under review for deactivation, only one, the Future Teachers Club, was deactivated, and it was the students' decision.
Had the meeting taken place, the ICC would have voted on items affecting Club Day and Diversity Night.
Karen Kit, a back up advisor, expressed disappointment that the meeting was canceled. "After 11 years, this is the first year we've had some great activities planned. This doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's sad," said Kit.
