Does Las Positas College have something against Fridays? There seems to be a discerning attitude towards the day of the week. Think about it. The on campus Elite Café and the bookstore both close at 2 p.m. on Fridays. So we're all aware that many students don't have classes on Fridays---but what about those who do? The extra studious go-to-school-all-week students and faculty are getting the shaft.
College students eat often. If I'm not mistaken, college students even like eating at school on Fridays---sometimes even, heaven forbid, after 2 p.m.
It's understood that these place of business on campus receive little revenue on Fridays. They would need to schedule more employees and chefs to work. But, a few extra hours would go a long way for both workers and students.
There are classes that run past 2 p.m. on Fridays. This means that many Fridays are filled with exams. And where is that poor student going to go when his or her pen runs out of ink in the midst of his or her blue-book essay exam? Can we install some durable pen machines to sit next to the Express newsstands, perhaps?
Did I mention the Elite Café is closed on Saturdays? I had a three hour long Saturday class last semester, and had no where to go for a snack during the allotted fifteen minute break.
Maybe the bookstore could extend its hours until 5 p.m. on Fridays. That would be late enough. Students would feel more taken care of. Comfort would be won if the Elite Café would remain open until 5 p.m also.
Maybe food isn't the reason we are at LPC. But, the fact that LPC offers food on campus offers an incentive for students. No one wants to drive a distance for a mid-afternoon snack.
Just a few extra hours of operation on Friday and Saturday would be ideal in the bookstore and Elite Café.
