Wasting money one day at a time

Our state needs funds as it stands. Yet, Arnold Schwarzenegger feels it is necessary to blow off more money from our state's bank account. A section of the "MacArthur Maze" was destroyed on April 29, and Arnold withdrew funds for a free day of public transportation. This may seem like a useful idea at first glance to those who need to get to work or where they need to go, and residents of the Bay Area will save approximately five dollars. Although the funds add up, and this free day cost the state a grand total of $2.5 million.
This money could of been useful towards several other funds that desperately need money such as schools, yet it was thrown away to save the average person a few dollars for a single day. The government should aid those with commute, but doing such a poor decision is meaningless when the money could have been put to better use.
A better decision would be to take a certain percentage off, such as 20 percent for five days. This could be more of an encourage to use public transportation, giving people the chance to appreciate the discount if one could not do so on Monday, and would make commuters get used to public transportation; instead of one day being free and the next day back to full price.
Overall, I feel this was a good idea to aid the hard workers of California, yet it had poor execution. I hope that if such a highway disaster should occur in the future, the "Guhvehnator" will come up with a better plan than the one occurred on that Monday.
