With Halloween behind us and with more holidays ahead, the chocolate and candy will be plentiful.
Besides our weight, our pearly whites will suffer throughout the whole season.
The American Dental Association offered some tips on their website on how to keep our gums and teeth healthy and clean.
Eat sugary foods with meals. Saliva production increases during meals and helps neutralize acid production and rinse food particles from the mouth.
Limit between-meal snacks. When choosing a snack, choose nutritious foods and consider chewing sugarless gum afterward. Chewing gum will increase saliva flow, helps wash out food, and wash out decay-producing acid.
Drink more water. Drinking fluoridated water can help prevent tooth decay. According to a 2002 report done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost 66% of the U.S. population receives fluoridated water through the taps in their homes. For bottled water, check the label to see if fluoride is included.
Brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily.
See your dentist regularly.
